INTERWOVEN

Heleen and Pieter, the curatorial duo behind Omarcity in Antwerp, invited me to develop INTERWOVEN with them — an exhibition where our cultures and curatorial practices could intertwine.

I invited five designers based in Portugal — Lucie Schweitzer of Fantasque, Helena Novelletto, Lia Raquel Marques, Macheia and Margarida Lopes Pereira. Omarcity invited designers from Belgium — Atelier Balancé, Laure van Brempt, Lerry Ceramics and Partine.

Over the past two years we brought this wonderful team together several times in immersive sessions, including a residency at Hotel Calipo in Vila Viçosa last December. Coming from different generations, backgrounds and disciplines, they developed a body of work defined by experimentation — collaborative pieces created specifically for the space, where techniques and materials meet, drawing inspiration from Alentejo.

We are finally presenting these collaborative works, alongside a selection of individual pieces from each artist’s practice, over a weekend of art, music and food at Hotel Calipo, from 10th to the 12th of April.

The opening of the INTERWOVEN exhibition will take place on Saturday 11th of April from 3pm onwards. The exhibition can also be visited on Sunday 12th of April from 11am to 7pm.
