Low-relief sculpture by Maria Emília Araújo in stoneware and glazed ceramics. A renowned Portuguese modernist ceramicist and painter, Maria Emília Araújo (b. 1940) is a resident artist at Viúva Lamego. This work was made to be presented in the Ria Formosa exhibition, curated by Felipa Almeida, in Lisbon by Design in 2022.
Founded in 1849, Viúva Lamego is one of the first Portuguese tile factories. Since the 1930s it provides artistic residencies and encourages collaborations between artists and master artisans.
